Suitable for those with millinery experience and complete beginners alike, over the three days you’ll be guided through creating two headpieces - a Hatinator and a Fascinator - which you’ll be able to take home to feel proud wearing to your next event or party.
The wide brimmed ‘Hatinator’ looks like a hat but sits on the head like a fascinator. It can be worn in a variety of positions; on a jaunty angle, at the front of the head, or sitting at the side of your hair.
The pattern cut ‘Cocktail Percher’ style fascinator can be smaller and traditionally sits at the front.
You will be shown the techniques to create both styles, guided through creating, making and adorning your headpieces as well as choosing how to attach them to hat elastic or metal head bands.
All materials are provided. There will be a choice of colours and each student will be given 2 x 1m lengths of sinamay, enough millinery wire for both projects and access to sundries such as a cotton threads, pva glue and additional tools required to complete the projects.
Your own small sewing kit and large scissors would be an advantage. The kit should basic items such as thread, a few hand sewing needles, ball head dress making pins, tape measure and scissors. Your tutor will have a few extras of these for sale should students not be able to supply their own.
If there is a particular requirement, Students are very welcome to send colour swatches but the latest date for receiving these is 5 weeks before the retreat (to allow time to order and receive delivery of fabrics and send back should it not match).
